Happy St. Patrick's Day!
McCall’s M5894
(available as Butterick B6852)

Fabric:
Fashion fabric is green polyester georgette; underlining is poly/cotton batiste, both from Joann’s.

For her first garment project, my student (M.Y.) wanted to re-create a ready-to-wear hooded dress that she loved. She selected a poly georgette – not the easiest fabric for a beginning project! – but she was determined to make it work. We started with McCall’s M5894, a basic yoke-backed shirt, which we fit to M.Y.’s figure. The original dress had front princess seams, so we connected the front and bust darts to create armhole princess seams. The sleeves, hood, and front pocket are single layers of georgette. The rest of the body is underlined with batiste. M.Y. looks lovely and was very proud of her accomplishment. She’s also ready to lift a beer to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
